A ROUTE TO ENJOY NATURE
Cihuri has numerous natural outdoor spaces for neighbours and visitors to enjoy. Among them, we can mention: el Parque “el Sestil”, el Paseo la Sendilla, el Paseo de la Unión Ríos Oja-Tirón, el Parque Fuente Vieja, el Paseo del Molino, el Parque de Maquinaria Agrícola Antigua, el Parque de los Patos, el Parque Cardiosaludable, el Parque Infantil, el Parque la Esclavitud, which surrounds the hermitage of the same name, as well as different walks and rural routes, through vineyards to the south of the Montes Obarenes and the Peñas de Jembres.
We begin our route at the square (main meeting point in the centre of the village), walking along the left bank of the Tirón river and passing by the “El Sestil” Park, Paseo de La Sendilla, El Priorato, Puente Romano, Barrio de las Bodegas, and el Mirador de la Unión de los Ríos Oja-Tirón, where you can listen to the flow of water while contemplating the extraordinary fluvial vegetation.
Walking along the Paseo de La Sendilla, at the foot of what was once called “orchand of the Priory of the Monastery of San Millán de la Cogolla”, we will reach the second landmark of Cihuri: The Roman Bridge, an architectural element of great relevance in the region, which houses centuries of history.
This was the old route that the residents of Cihuri, (so as not to travel by road) covered on foot, to go to carry out the work of producing and monitoring their wines in the private wineries that each winemaker had in the neighbourhood named precisely “de las Bodegas” (of the Wineries).
Originally built of Roman construction and reformed in medieval times. Since then, it has served as a ford of the Tirón river for all the inhabitants.
On the other side, on the right bank of the river, locals and visitors can benefit of public barbecues under shady trees and enjoy nature and cuisine surrounded by friends and family.
